Why Email Drives SIGNIFICANTLY More Revenue Than Socials (Hint… It’s all to do with intimacy)
The beauty of email is that it’s intimate.
Customers have free will.
Social media isn’t intimate.
Your customers' perception is shaped by likes, comments, and shares. They’ll decide whether or not to engage based on these numbers, also — that’s human nature. And sidenote: that em dash was used using my own free will.
With social media, there’s no free will.
Of course, both matter. But, if done correctly, email drives disproportionally more revenue.
… Because it’s intimate. And because it’s intimate, it’s easier to shape customer perception.
In the inbox, customers are easier to influence.
Yet many founders still ignore email or half-ass it with random sales pitches or overly aggressive emails that use false urgency and scarcity.
That’s bad practice. It also just pisses people off and fucks up your list's health, sending you straight to spam.
Great email marketing invites customers into your world. It doesn’t force the sale. It mixes storytelling, education, and entertainment. And as long as you don’t do dumb shit, it makes it easy for you to mold customer perception.
Do that, and sales will flow regardless. 45% of all revenue at a minimum. That’s pretty much guaranteed.
The real magic happens when you launch a new product or host an event like Black Friday and actually ask for the sale. Email cleans up here. Double, triple, maybe even quadruple the revenue you would make if you’ve ignored it all year.
I’ve seen accounts generate 74% of their total revenue across an entire month from both email and SMS.
That’s not being aggressive. It’s being creative. That means not pumping out the same bullshit emails that every other brand sends.
Smaller brands that think they can’t afford to do email marketing don't realize just how much money they are losing out on by not doing it.
You have all these people who admire your brand, have opted in, granted you permission to communicate with them, and then you ghost them… making it easy for your competitors to come in and sweep them off their feet.
It’s insane.
I get that I’m not exactly an authority voice in the industry. That's only because I'm shy, busy with other shit, and couldn't be fucked trying to convince people. I’ve also lucked out with my clients, so I’m not looking for the business.
But I do spend most of my time nerding out , taking e-commerce courses, learning from the brightest minds in business, and listening to different founder stories… and literally all of them say email is key to success.
So if you’re not going to take my word for it, take theirs.
Not only is it the most reliable medium for generating sales… It’s also the safest because you own your list.
Meta owns your followers. Your ad account can be shut down at any time.
Moral of the story: Email shouldn’t be an afterthought.
Half your revenue should be predictable and come from your email and SMS list.
It’s that simple. Yet most still don’t do it.
One brand is fishing with maggots. The other uses dynamite.
Up to you to decide which brand you want to be.
